तुम मिल जाती तो अच्छा था,
मगर ये भी कोई कम नहीं कि तुम याद आती हो।

कभी शाम के सन्नाटे में,
कभी चाय की प्याली में,
कभी बारिश की पहली बूँद में,
कभी अधूरी किताबों में।

मैंने इश्क़ किया था बेहिसाब तुमसे,
तुमने हिसाब लगा लिया…
मैंने वक़्त दिया था बेमोल,
तुमने कीमत लगा ली।

तुमने पूछा भी नहीं कभी कि
क्यों टुकड़ों में बिखरता हूँ,
मैं हर बार मुस्कुरा कर कह गया –
"बस मौसम थोड़ा उदास है…"

मैंने मोहब्बत को क़लम से बयाँ किया,
तुमने उसे लफ़्ज़ों की चालाकी समझा।
मैंने ख़्वाब में तुम्हें हर रात छुआ,
तुमने इसे मेरी नासमझी कहा।

मैं चुप रहा हर ताने पर,
हर नज़रअंदाज़ करने पर,
क्योंकि मोहब्बत में बहस नहीं होती,
बस एक उम्मीद होती है —

तुम्हारे जाने के बाद,
मैंने खुद से मिलना शुरू किया है।
आईने से दोस्ती हुई है,
तकिए से बातें करना सीख लिया है।

अब जो दर्द होता है,

मैंने शहर छोड़ा, मोहल्ला बदला,
लोग बदले, रिश्ते बदले…
पर जो नहीं बदला,
वो तुम्हारा नाम है मेरी हर कविता में।

तुम अब भी आती हो,
कभी किसी गीत में,
कभी किसी ग़ज़ल में,
कभी किसी कविता की अंतिम पंक्ति में…

अब मोहब्बत नहीं करता मैं,
अब इश्क़ के नाम पर तंज करता हूँ।
अब लड़की की आँखों में सपने नहीं देखता,
अब उनमें झूठ पहचानने लगा हूँ।

सुनो, अब भी तुम मेरी हो…
बस फ़र्क इतना है कि
अब तुम्हारा नाम नहीं लेता,
ताकि बाकी दुनिया को लगे
कि मैं ठीक हूँ…

नेता बोले – "हमसे अच्छा कौन?"
मैं हँस पड़ा…
कहना चाहा – "तुमसे बुरा कौन!"
पर आदत है मेरी चुप रहने की,
क्योंकि सियासत में सवाल करना
अब अपराध माना जाता है।

जिस देश में जवान शहीद हो
और नेता विदेश घूमे,
उस देश की मिट्टी भी रोती है,
पर वोट फिर भी जाति देखकर डाले जाते हैं।

मैं जब मंच पर जाता हूँ,

तो लोग मेरी मुस्कान देखते हैं,
पर कोई नहीं जानता
कि ये मुस्कान कितने आँसुओं से बनी है।

शब्दों की चादर में जो दर्द छुपा है,
वो सिर्फ़ वही समझ सकता है
जिसने मोहब्बत भी हारी हो
और सियासत भी देखी हो।

अब भी तन्हा चलता हूँ,
पर डरता नहीं, थकता नहीं।
क्योंकि अब मैं समझ गया हूँ –
मोहब्बत सिर्फ़ एक इंसान से नहीं होती,
कभी-कभी उसे शब्दों से भी हो जाती है।

मैं शायर नहीं, मगर शायरी मेरी जान है,
तू अब नहीं, पर तेरी यादें मेरी पहचान हैं।
जो लोग मुझे “कुमार” समझ बैठे हैं,
उन्हें बताओ –
मैं “विश्वास” हूँ… और अब भी तुम्हारा हूँ।
